Who am i ?

  • Lionel Burosse, wine consultant

EXPERTISE & COMMITMENT

I hold an engineering degree from Bordeaux Sciences Agro (ex. ENITA), and have been assisting winegrowers in Southwest France for nearly 15 years. I bring a solid expertise in agronomy and field experience to my work in the vineyard and employ comprehensive and precise methods. One of the guiding principles behind these methods is to achieve the balance of vine and soil.

MULTIPLE MISSIONS

I provide wine estates with technical support, for everything from soil to harvesting: studying terroir, recommending products and adapting of training methods, improving grape quality, reducing input products and residues, and introducing organic viticulture. To accomplish these tasks, I rely on rigorous observations and precise analysis, as well as precision viticulture techniques and decision support tools.

A STRONG COMMITMENT

Above and beyond providing advice, I offer operational assistance in the vineyards, working alongside winegrowers to help them respond to the major challenges of their profession, with customized and feasible solutions. Listening and discussing are at the heart of the collaborative process. The support I offer is tailored to the winegrower’s needs.

  • Advantages

  • I am a consultant associates with the American lab Brookside Laboratories. Brookside brings together 200 independent consultants from around the world who share the same philosophy of “restoring the balance of soil and plants.”

Methods are based on work by emeritus professor Dr William Albrecht from the University of Missouri, who established a direct link between the soil, plant, and human health. Associated consultants undergo a rigorous selection process before they are allowed to join Brookside Laboratories. They receive regular training on new techniques in agronomy and new analysis methods, which are developed in conjunction with several American partner universities.

Publications

My initial experience focused on work on vine diseases in various vineyards in France and Portugal. This work led to several publications. Today, I continue to investigate this area in the field. The following is a selection of my work:

  • Identification of nutrients and nutrient ratios which can influence the quality of grapes on a network of ten Vineyards of Cadillac
1ère Côtes de Bordeaux Appellation. Philip Barlow, Lionel Burosse 2015
